Lesson intro

NAOMI's journey: from bitterness to blessing

As I think about the life of Naomi and how she lived her later years, I cannot help but think of a principle that we learn in the Advent story, 3 you cannot tell the end from the beginning. Apart from the Old Testament promises of the Messiah and the angelic announcements of Messiah's birth, the majestic destiny of Jesus might never be guessed from His humble beginnings and surroundings.

SIMEON'S CHARACTER

TRAGEDY STRIKES
Naomi's story begins with incredible hardship. A famine forces her family to leave Bethlehem for Moab, where her husband and two sons die, leaving her with two Moabite daughters-in-law.

GOD'S PROVIDENCE
Ruth, her faithful daughter-in-law, accompanies her. They arrive at the beginning of barley harvest, where God has prepared a way through Boaz, a kinsman-redeemer
ANNA'S DEVOTION

RETURN TO BETHLEHEM
With the devastation of death, Naomi returns to her homeland, feeling that God has left her desolate. She renames herself Mara, reflecting the bitterness of how God has dealt with her.

RESTORATION
Through Ruth's marriage to Boaz and the birth of Obed, Naomi becomes a joyful grandmother. The women say to her: "Blessed is the Lord who has not left you without a redeemer today."

Through the life of Naomi, we see the importance of finishing well. God cares about us 3 even in difficult circumstances. He works through life's hardships. Not only was He faithful to Naomi, He was faithful generations ahead of her, as Obed became the grandfather of King David.
