Are Older People Marginalized in Today's Society?
God’s assignment for older people is that they would continually model and continually tell the generations that follow them about God’s faithfulness. That is the assignment for every parent, every grandparent, every great-grandparent, and every great-great-grandparent. That is the legacy that aging saints ought to be passing on to their descendants.

95 Million People Over Age 65 in the US
By 2060, the U.S. will have nearly 95 million citizens over 65, marking a significant increase in the aging population, a phenomenon referred to as the "graying tsunami." This demographic shift, also observed globally, is due to declining birth rates. This trend raises concerns about the financial burden on Medicare and Medicaid, compounded by a workforce shortage as fewer young people enter the job market. Dr. Hal Habecker views this as an opportunity for the church to engage, suggesting that ministries focused on "finishing well" are uniquely positioned to address these challenges.

INTRODUCTION: The SEVEN ESSENTIALS

We discover that God's plan and purposes for his people don't change at the age of retirement. Think about this. As followers of Christ, we're called to keep growing spiritually, to keep being conformed to the image of Jesus.

ESSENTIAL TWO: We will CONNECT

We were never meant to do life alone.

Meaningful relationships become even more important as we age. Explore God’s design for connection and discover practical ways to strengthen friendships, build community, and stay actively engaged in the Body of Christ.

ESSENTIAL FOUR: We will INVEST in future generations

Your experience can become someone else’s legacy.

God has given you a lifetime of experiences, lessons, wisdom, and faith worth sharing. Discover how to intentionally invest in your children, grandchildren, younger generations, and others who can benefit from what God has taught you.

ESSENTIAL SIX: We will PLAN AHEAD

One of the greatest gifts we can leave is being prepared.

Finishing well includes preparing well. This lesson encourages you to thoughtfully address the practical, personal, and spiritual decisions that matter while also preserving your stories, values, faith, and legacy for those you love.

ESSENTIAL ONE: We will GROW

God isn’t finished with you.

Spiritual growth doesn’t stop as we grow older. In this lesson, discover how God can continue shaping your heart, deepening your faith, and using every season of life to make you more like Christ.

ESSENTIAL THREE: We will CARE/LOVE

Love is one of the greatest ways we reflect Christ.

Jesus showed us what it means to truly see, love, and care for others. This lesson challenges us to follow His example—becoming more intentional about encouraging, supporting, serving, and loving the people God places around us.

ESSENTIAL FIVE: We will BE AVAILABLE

God still has work for you to do.

Retirement from a career is not retirement from God’s purposes. Explore what it means to remain open to His calling and available to serve—using your time, abilities, experiences, and spiritual gifts wherever He leads.

ESSENTIAL SEVEN: We will ANTICIPATE HEAVEN

Our best days are not behind us.

For followers of Christ, growing older brings us closer—not simply to the end of this life, but to eternity with Him. Discover how the promise of heaven can replace fear with hope and give greater purpose to how we live today.
