One of Jesus’ incredible teachings was on the importance of forgiveness (Matthew 18.21-22; Luke 17.1-4). Jesus finished His life forgiving those who were crucifying Him.

How profound. I have been a pastor for 48 years, and, on too many occasions, I have watched Christians live with and finish their lives with resentment, unforgiving hearts, and unresolved conflict towards others.

Forgiveness is the mark of Jesus and it ought to be the mark of every disciple (Ephesians 4.32). Offer forgiveness. Ask for forgiveness. Make amends. Life is short. Do it now. Nothing is as special as relationships restored. Few things are as tragic as broken relationships at death.

The same is true for each day. I’ve watched too many relationships broken by hardness of heart – never reconciled before death. Don’t be one of them. Let us live in the freedom of the joy of forgiveness. Jesus taught this when He taught us to pray; “Forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors” Matthew 6.12).
